Rs 1.2 million a year falls in slab 2, so tax is 1% of the amount above Rs 600,000 — Rs 6,000 a year, or Rs 500 a month.
Is salary up to Rs 50,000 a month tax-free?
Yes. Annual taxable salary up to Rs 600,000 has no income tax under the 2026-27 slabs.
Is there still a surcharge above Rs 1 crore?
The Finance Act 2026 withdrew the Section 4AB surcharge for salaried individuals from 1 July 2026.
Do I still need to file a return if my employer deducts tax?
Yes. Deduction at source does not make you a filer. You join the Active Taxpayer List only after filing your return and wealth statement on FBR Iris, due 30 September.
Can I claim back tax paid on mobile bills or my car?
Advance tax on mobile and internet bills, vehicle registration and token, electricity and property is adjustable against your yearly tax when you file. Any excess can be claimed as a refund.
Who counts as a salaried individual?
Someone whose salary is more than 75% of total taxable income. Below that, the heavier non-salaried table applies.
