ATL status

Filer vs non-filer: what it costs you

A filer is someone on FBR's Active Taxpayer List (ATL). Non-filers pay higher withholding tax on many everyday transactions — often up to double — and face more restrictions each budget.

Where non-filers pay more

  • Cash withdrawals from banks above the set limit
  • Buying and selling property
  • Registering and transferring vehicles
  • Profit on bank deposits and dividends
  • Some bills and other banking transactions

How to become a filer

Late filers may need to pay a surcharge to get onto the list. We tell you the exact position before filing.

  • Register for an NTN on FBR Iris
  • File your income tax return and wealth statement
  • Your name appears on the ATL when FBR updates it, once the return is filed

How to check your ATL status

You can check on the FBR website using your CNIC, or by sending an SMS with ATL and your CNIC to 9966. Or just send us your CNIC on WhatsApp and we will check for you.

Common questions

How long does ATL status last?

The list is updated regularly. You need to file each year to stay on it.

I filed but I am not on the ATL. Why?

The return may have been filed late, or the list has not updated yet. We can check what is holding it up.
