FBR compliance for salaried individuals, freelancers, overseas Pakistanis & SMEs

Annual return

Income tax return filing with FBR

Every year your income tax return and wealth statement are filed on FBR Iris. Filing on time keeps you on the Active Taxpayer List and lets you claim back extra tax deducted from you.

File my return

What the return includes

  • Your income for the tax year (July to June) — salary, business, rent, freelance or foreign income
  • Tax already deducted — by your employer, bank, mobile bills, car registration and so on
  • Your wealth statement — assets, liabilities and how your wealth changed in the year

Documents to send us

  • Salary certificate or tax deduction certificate from your employer
  • Bank statements and withholding tax certificates from your bank
  • Details of property, vehicles and other assets
  • Freelancers: payment records and remittance proofs (PRCs)
  • Last year's return, if you filed one

Deadline

The normal deadline for individuals is 30 September after the tax year ends, though FBR sometimes extends it. Late filing can mean penalties and losing ATL status, so start early.

Common questions

My employer already deducts tax. Do I still need to file?

Yes, if your income is taxable. Deduction is not filing — without a return you are not on the Active Taxpayer List.

Can I get a refund?

If more tax was deducted than you owe, the return lets you claim it. We check this for every client.

What do I get after filing?

An acknowledgment from FBR Iris, which we send to you on WhatsApp.
